The investment for in-line explosive detection systems (EDS) can range in the tens of millions of dollars and a critical success factor is that these systems meet the performance and operational goals, both today and in the future. This results in substantial risk being placed on the up front design process as any unforeseen design errors will negatively impact system performance and operational costs.
