In our continuing efforts to provide innovative and
technologically superior drive and control systems, Brock Solutions
has developed a control scheme that allows us to utilize AC drives
on cranes that are fed from Constant Potential (CP) DC rails.
The major advantage of this technology is that it allows us to
perform partial crane upgrades. We can upgrade a single motion - such as a hoist - on a
crane without upgrading any of the other motions
such as the bridge or trolley. Further, we can provide a partial or a
complete upgrade on one crane without impacting any of the other
cranes in the same bay that are fed from the same DC supply.
Upgrade costs are minimized because much of the existing power
and control system is reused. Conversion times are minimized in
partial upgrades and with less risk. AC drive/motor technology is
far superior over older DC technology. AC technology provides the
optimum in performance, and dramatically improves crane
performance through superior speed, torque, and position control.
